Issue/Introduction

  • This issue reports when there are missing uplinks on VSS or VDS.
    • vMotion of the VM from the source host report below compatibility error.

Environment

VMWare vSphere ESXi

Cause

  • This issue reported due to missing uplinks on DVS or VSS.
  • It can also arise due to a faulty network adapter/card or hardware compatibility issues.

Resolution

To resolve the issue, add the required vmnics to the uplinks.

Workaround:-

  • Check the NIC's present on the ESXi host and also from the physical server console (iDRAC, iLO etc).
    • Login as user root on the ESXi host via putty/ssh
    • Run the command esxcli network nic list to view the number of NICs available. Kindly ensure, both Link and Admin status is up.
  • Enable the vMotion network on other available NICs (reported above) by creating the necessary port group and VMKernel adapter. Ensure that the appropriate VLAN or access configuration is enabled on the corresponding physical switch port.
