Issue/Introduction

  • The NSX SNMP framework enables monitoring of both system-level entities (for example, disks and interfaces on NSX Edge appliances) and logical entities (for example, VPN tunnels and logical switches) from an SNMP manager.
  • SNMP is not started/configured by default after NSX installation.
  • A consistent means of configuring SNMP settings (community, username/password, trap destination) across NSX manager and edge nodes is desired.

Environment

VMware NSX 4.x

Resolution

  1. Log in to NSX Manager UISystem → Profiles → Node Profiles.

  2. Under SNMP polling, click Add SNMP Profile.

  3. Delete the older SNMP profile from version SNMP v2c
  4. Select SNMP v3, then set:

    • Username

    • Auth password

    • Priv password

  5. Save, then assign the profile to target nodes/edges.

  6. Commit changes.
