PCI Device Multiple Target Firmware Version Warning in vLCM vSAN Cluster HCL Checks

Issue/Introduction

The user runs an HCL check and sees a warning that one or more of their PCI devices has multiple firmware versions, but not all are shown.  The message will start with the sentence "Instances of this PCI device have different target firmware versions but some may not be shown."

Environment

vCenter Server 9.1

Resolution

Investigate the logs to see the full list of firmware versions that are running on their PCI device.  

In order to find the full list of firmware versions running on their device, run the following:

  1. SSH to the vCenter server
  2. If applicable, switch to bash:
    1.     * List APIs: "help api list"
          * List Plugins: "help pi list"
          * Launch BASH: "shell"

      Command> shell
      Shell access is granted to root
      root@<vcenter> [ ~ ]#

  3. Run the following command to review the full list of firmware versions:
    1.  cat /var/log/vmware/vmware-updatemgr/vum-server/vmware-vum-server.log | grep "PCI device with ID "
