Unable to View Full Group Names and Complete Flow Details in SSP UI

Issue/Introduction

In the Security Services Platform (SSP) UI, you may face difficulty when working with long group names or viewing detailed flow information. Specifically:

• Group names that are longer are truncated in the Visibility & Planning section and are not fully visible in the dropdown filter.

• In the Flow Details dialog box(that opens when you click on the Arrow showing the flow details between computes/groups), you cannot resize or expand the window to see complete information such as source, destination, group names, and DFW rule names.

This article explains the cause and provides the current resolution and planned enhancements.

Environment

Security Services Platform (SSP) version >= 5.0

Cause

 

• Group Names Truncation:
  
  Longer group names in the group filter dropdown were truncated in the middle to fit within the UI width.

  While hovering over a group showed the full name, you may see that truncation (especially in the middle) was not sufficient to distinguish similar names.

  Example:

  • abc-defghi-internal

  • abc-defghi-jklmno-internal

  These names appear very similar when truncated and cannot be distinguished easily.

• Flow Details Dialog Limitation:
  
  The Flow Details dialog box has a fixed size and currently does not allow expanding or resizing. This makes it difficult to view all details when the grid contains dense information.

 

Resolution

Group Name Visibility Fix

This issue has been addressed by increasing the truncation size to 80 characters and widening the dropdown display and the fix is available in the next release of SSP. Longer group names will be displayed with horizontal scrolling enabled when needed.

Flow Details Dialog Enhancement

A feature request is in place to allow expanding/resizing the Flow Details dialog to better accommodate dense information. Please subscribe to this article so that once the enhancement is addressed, this article will be updated.
