Unable to assign license to vCenter 9.x after evaluation license expiry, Assign Primary License option is greyed out for vCenter

VCF Operations VMware vCenter Server

Issue/Introduction

  • VCF licenses are generated from Business Service Console, and it's added to VCF Operations instance. However, unable to assign the license to the vCenter.
  • vCenter selection is greyed out while following the Assign Primary License procedure to assign the license to the vCenter.



  • The Assignable column shows No with the message "To assign this license, it must have allocated capacity of ### cores." as shown below:

Environment

VCF 9.x

Cause

This issue is observed when the license does not have enough capacity to assign to the vCenter (Available CPU cores in license < Actual CPU cores usage on vCenter).

Resolution

Perform any of below steps depending on the CPU cores availability in default license:

Unassigned CPU cores are available in default license.

  1. Log in VCF Business Services console.
  2. Perform the steps in Change License Capacity add more cores from the default license.
  3. Retry assigning license to vCenter.

No available CPU cores in default license.

  • Procure new CPU core license.

    OR

  • Reduce the number of hosts managed by the vCenter to match to the available CPU cores in the license.
