Unable to consolidate snapshot files

Issue/Introduction

• When attempting to consolidate the disks via vCenter Web Client, this error occurs

An error occurred while consolidating disks: The operation failed. Consolidation failed for disk node 'scsi0:0': The operation failed. Failed to send allocated bitmap to VMkernel while copying disks from '/vmfs/volumes/#######-########-####-############/######/######_5-0000##.vmdk' to '/vmfs/volumes/#######-########-####-###########/######/######_5.vmdk'. Consolidation failed for disk node 'scsi0:2': The operation failed. Failed to send allocated bitmap to VMkernel while copying disks from '/vmfs/volumes/#######-########-####-############/######/######_5-0000##.vmdk' to '#######-########-####-############/######/######_5.vmdk'.

Environment

ESXi 8.X

vCenter 8.X

Cause

The issue occurs when data copy from snapshot delta disk to base disk fails to progress due to underlying storage connectivity issues within the ESXi host.

Resolution

To troubleshoot and rectify storage connectivity issues, see Troubleshooting Storage issues.

As workaround, vMotion the virtual machine to another ESXi host in the cluster and retry disk consolidation.
