Issue/Introduction

  • vCenter Server UI shows a memory exhaustion alert everyday at same time.

  • VAMI Overall Health & Memory in Alert Status with the message: "Appliance is running low on memory. Add more memory to the machine"

Environment

VMware vCenter Server

Cause

The high memory utilization on the vCenter Server is caused by a scheduled task [VMware vSphere Lifecycle Manager HCL Validation] that runs daily at the same time which lead to the memory exhaustion alerts.

Resolution

Note: Take a complete backup of the vCenter Server before making any changes.

To workaround , Need to reschedule the task to run during a less resource-intensive time of the day.

Other Alternate way is to increase the memory allocated to the vCenter Server VM without task

Steps to increase memory for the vCenter Server VM:

  1. Access the ESXi host interface where the vCenter Server VM is running.
  2. Shut down the vCenter Server VM before making any memory changes.
  3. Right-click on the vCenter Server VM and choose Edit Settings.
  4. Navigate to Memory: In the Hardware tab, select Memory.
  5. Update Memory Allocation:
    • Change the memory size to desired amount.
  6. Click OK or Save to apply the changes.
  7. Power on the VM to start it with the new memory allocation.
