Issue/Introduction

  • Host Connectivity Lost event / alarm is seen during backup of vCenter VM.
  • vCenter Appliance backup method is image based using 3rd party backup software.

Environment

vCenter Server 8.x

Cause

The VCSA is needing to pause/suspend during a snapshot consolidation for the backup process to complete. This causes the appliance to think it has lost a host connection because vpxd has lost heartbeats from the host(s).

Resolution

Using 3rd party image based backups for VCSA is not recommended.

Use VAMI, file based, backup operation to backup the vCenter configuration instead.
