VMware Cloud Director Availability - Disaster Recovery 4.x VMware Cloud Director

Issue/Introduction

When attempting to perform a Test Failover of a workload VM in VMware Cloud Director Availability, we may encounter the following error:

"Unexpected VMware Cloud Director error.Cannot import VM <VM_NAME> (vm-####) in RP (resgroup-####) into VDC (N/A) since it is already managed by VMware Cloud Director."

/opt/vmware/h4/cloud/log/cloud.log on the VCDA Replication Manager, you see entries similar to:

[UI-###########################Sw] [job-95] com.vmware.h4.cloud.job.VmFailoverJob : Failed to import the recovered VC VM into a new vCD vApp
com.vmware.vcloud.client.exception.VcloudException: (Major code = 400, minor code = STORAGE_QUOTA_EXCEEDED) -
The requested operation will exceed the VDC's storage quota: storage policy "sgas-##########" has -7,351,782 MB remaining, requested 784,384 MB

Environment

VMware Cloud Director Availability 4.x

VMware Cloud Director 10.x

Cause

The primary cause of this issue is a lack of storage space in the quota assigned to the Virtual Data Center (VDC).
During Test Failover, it attempts to import the recovered VM into a new VMware Cloud Director  vApp, but the operation fails because the storage quota is exceeded.

Resolution

To fix the issue, Increase the Storage Quota:

Steps to Increase Storage Quota in VMware Cloud Director

  1. Log in to VMware Cloud Director as a Provider Administrator:

    • Access the VMware Cloud Director Provider Portal using your administrator credentials.

  2. Navigate to the Organization Virtual Data Center (Org VDC):

    • In the Cloud Director interface, go to the "Organizations" tab.

    • Select the specific organization that requires the storage quota adjustment.

  3. Access the Storage Profile Settings:

    • Within the organization settings, locate and click on "Storage Profiles".

    • Identify the storage profile associated with the Org VDC.

  4. Modify the Storage Policy Limit:

    • Select the storage policy you wish to adjust.

    • Click on "Edit" to modify the storage policy settings.

    • Increase the "Storage Limit" to accommodate the additional space required for the Test Failover operation.

Note: Ensure that the new storage limit aligns with the available resources and does not exceed the physical storage capacity.

  5. Save the Changes:

    • After adjusting the storage limit, save the changes to apply the new quota settings.

  6. Verify the Changes:

    • Confirm that the new storage quota is reflected in the Org VDC settings.

    • Attempt the Test Failover operation again to ensure that the error is resolved.
