Issue/Introduction

Customer is encountering JMS and messaging engine-related errors during startup:

CWSIS1593I: Messaging engine failed to gain initial lock on data store.
CWSIA0241E: JMSException during createConnection: No messaging engine running.

Environment

WebSphere Application Server 8.5.5.27

IDM 14.5

Cause

Possible causes:

1. Another instance of the messaging engine was running

2. System was improperly shutdown or crashed

3. Network or database connectivity issues preventing access to the data storage

Resolution

The problem can be solved by various restarts: from application level to the whole machine.

Network problems require involvement of the Network Admin.
