Issue/Introduction

Aria Automation is throwing an encryption error when sending a workload to a non encrypted volume: Cannot generate key. CreateKey failed on key provider <keyprovider_name>, error; code: QLC_ERR_GENERAL_ERROR

  • Environment may have recently been upgraded to to 8.18.x from 8.16.x.
  • Attempted to provision and saw the error occurring in both Aria Automation and vCenter.
  • Configuration and blueprint values are the same as previous values but now this error occurs.

Environment

Aria Automation 8.18.x

Cause

vSphere Storage Profiles in Aria Automation 8.18.x target encrypted volumes if any possible target for the deployment is encrypted

An example might be one of the two volumes uses encrypt at rest in the vSAN profile but the target vSAN volume does not use encryption.

Resolution

This is a known issue in Aria Automation 8.18.x and this will be fixed in a future release.  Please subscribe to the article to be notified when the article is updated.

Use hard constraints for storage policy selection when using a shared vSphere storage policy and at least one target of this policy uses data encryption at rest.
