When attempting to automate the generation of reports from vCenter using the command-line interface of the third-party application RVTools, users may encounter an "STSService.dll" error. Users are experiencing an "STSService.dll" error when executing RVTools.exe from the command line with parameters aimed at automating report extraction from vCenter. An example command causing the error is:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Robware\RVTools\RVTools.exe" -s “Vcenter name" -u “username" -p “password" -c ExportAll2xlsx -d "E:\RVToolsReports"

or

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Dell\RVTools\RVTools.exe" -s “Vcenter name" -u “username" -p “password" -c ExportAll2xlsx -d "E:\RVToolsReports"

Cause

The root cause of the "STSService.dll" error is internal to the RVTools application and its underlying dependencies, specifically impacting its command-line execution functionality.
