Upgrading vCenter through SDDC Manager failed at a PRE VALIDATION stage with error "vCenter upgrade failed. Getting VM group name of stretched cluster failed with exception during initialization."

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

• vCenter upgrade failed with error "Getting VM group name of stretched cluster failed with exception during initialization"
• In lcm-debug.log:

• The vCenters manage by SDDC is not configure for stretched cluster.

Environment

• VMware Cloud Foundation 4.x
• VMware Cloud Foundation 5.x
• Vmware Cloud Foundation 9.x

Cause

The vCenter's name is recorded in the SDDC manager Database and it is case sensitive.
If there is a mismatch, it needs to be addressed.

Resolution

• Manually change the vCenter's name with exact case/ spelling, as per SDDC Database entry.
