Issue/Introduction

  • During the NSX V2T  migration configuration import phase, the process fails with the error "Config collection failed [Failed to fetch error list]" as below:

  • From the logs below, you can notice inaccessible VMs with no UUID (null) on it.
    /var/log/migration-coordinator/v2t/nsxv-config/vms.json

                "cluster":"domain-XXXX",
                "connectionState":"inaccessible",
                "ftEnabled":false,
                "host-moid":"host-XXXXX",
                "id":"vm-XXXXX",
                "instance-id":null,
                "is_mgmt":false,
                "is_template":false,
                "name":"XXXXXXXXXXXX",
                "pci_devices":[],

Environment

VMware NSX

Cause

  • The configuration collection process fails because it encounters inaccessible virtual machines that do not have a valid instance ID (UUID).
  • The V2T migrator relies on valid UUIDs for all VMs it processes, and the absence of a UUID for an inaccessible VM prevents successful configuration collection.

Resolution

Please clean up the inaccessible VMs and reattempt the migration.
