Issue/Introduction

When trying to add an MCS profile to a Group with a robot, an popup error occurs:

Local robot required

To add additional monitoring to this device. a local robot must be installed.

Use the Setup Wizard to add local monitoring based on a device's operating system: Windows or Linux, and select manual installation.

Environment

  • DX UIM 20.4, 23.4 or higher
  • DX UIM 23.4.4
  • Operator Console (OC) 23.4.4
  • MCS
  • Remote Monitoring setup or monitoring profile tasks
  • In the Group, the robot was already installed and running on the system

Cause

  • OC Inventory displayed the machine as a Device and not a Host
  • The system with the robot was discovered months ago and showing up as a Device and not a Host in the Inventory.
  • The system was also in the blacklist and had to be deleted from CM_BLACKLIST so it could be rediscovered and display as a Host

Resolution

  1. Delete the system from the OC Inventory but don't choose Deep Clean.

  2. Remove the system from the CM_BLACKLIST table if present.

  3. Using OC, rediscover the system (single IP) using the Setup Wizard.

  4. When the discovery job successfully finishes, check the Inventory and make sure it now shows up as Host (and not as a Device).

  5. Readd it to the OC Group and save it.

  6. Select the Group and then the Monitoring Config tab.

  7. Click on Add->New and add "Add a Profile for Monitoring"
For example a Setup profile or Enhanced monitoring profile.

  8. The window should then display without any popup error about needing a local robot.
