Issue/Introduction

You are updating stemcell for bosh director.  During the upgrade, Apply Changes fails with similar below error:

stderr: 'tar (child): /var/tempest/stemcells/light-bosh-google-kvm-ubuntu-jammy-go_agent-1.xxx.tgz: Cannot open: No such file or directory tar (child): Error is not recoverable: exiting now tar: Child returned status 2
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now
exit status 2
Exit code 1
Exited with 1

Cause

Note this part of the error above: "Cannot open: No such file or directory".

  • This indicates the file is either doesn't exist in that directory or does not have same naming convention as the Apply Change script is looking for. (The file name and directory can be found in the error snippet above.)

Resolution

  • Ensure the file exists in the directory mentioned in the error observed.
    • If the file does exist, check the naming of the file to make sure it exactly matches what Apply Change is looking for.  Rename file if necessary with 'sudo mv' to match exact name in error message.
      • For example,  in the error snippet from Intro section above, the error indicates the file name is: 'light-bosh-google-kvm-ubuntu-jammy-go_agent-1.xxx.tgz' inside directory '/var/tempest/stemcells/".

Additional Information

If the above Resolution does not resolve the issue, users can open a ticket with TANZU Support.
