Issue/Introduction

After ESXi installation, a local VMFS datastore did not get created on the boot disk

Environment

ESXi 7.0.x
ESXi 8.0.x

VMFS

Cause

A minimum size of 128 GB boot disk is required for ESXi to automatically create a VMFS datastore.

Resolution

If a local VMFS datastore is required, use a disk that is greater than 128GB in size to install ESXi.
Alternatively, present another local disk and create a VMFS datastore out of it. Once the disk has been presented, follow steps from the article Create a VMFS Datastore
