After installing the SPS, the Admin UI does not start and it reports many errors with the java beans. How can I solve it ?

I have installed CA SPS 12.52 SP1 and even though all finished fine, I cannot start the GUI. I am getting the following error in the logs

org.springframework.beans.factory.BeanCreationException: Error creating bean with name 'dataSource' defined in class path resource [spring/appContext-datasource.xml]: Instantiation of bean failed; nested exception is org.springframework.beans.BeanInstantiationException: Could not instantiate bean class [com.arcot.corejsvr.db.DBDataSource]: Constructor threw exception; nested exception is java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: sun/jdbc/odbc/JdbcOdbcDriver

I also have the following event in the event log


SPS Proxy Engine process could not be started. Retried three times. 


"C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.8.0_72\bin\java.exe" -Xms512m -Xmx1024m -XX:MaxPermSize=256M -Dcatalina.base=...



As per the compatibility matrix, SPS 12.52 SP1 has not been tested with JDK/JRE 1.8.X. 

Please install java to a supported version for SPS 12.52 SP1.
