Issue/Introduction

Use z/OSMF Deployments to install the product software and create the product data sets (global, CSI, target libraries, and distribution libraries) for the new software instance. The deployment jobs create a copy of the source product datasets to create the product target runtime environment. Creating a copy of the SMP/E target datasets keeps the SMP/E environment clean and it also isolates the product runtime environment for maintenance activities.

Resolution

  1. Login to z/OSMF and Select Software Management.

    .

  2. Select Deployments

  3. Select New from the Actions menu.

  4. Specify the NAME and Description, then click OK.

  5. Select the software to deploy.

  6. Select the Portable Software Instance button, select your package
    and then click OK.

  7. Select the objective for this deployment

  8. - Select Create a new software instance and connect it to the following global zone CSI.
    - Select  A new global zone CSI
    - Select the system where the target software instance will reside.
    - Specify YES to  Are you deploying z/OS?
    - Select Existing master catalog:
    - Click OK

  9. Check for missing SYSMODs and view missing SYSMOD reports.

  10. Click NEXT

  11. DESELECT the following report options:
Requisite SYSMODs and Fix Categories reports
Regressed SYSMODs and HOLDDATA Delta reports
    and click FINISH.

  12. Click OK

  13.  Configure this deployment to define the target software instance.

  14. Click NEXT

  15. For DLIBs, specify Yes to copy the distribution zones and libraries that are associated with the source software
    and click NEXT.

  16. For Model, indicate The source software to use as a model and click NEXT.

  17. For SMP/E Zones, the DLIB and TLIB names do not typically need to be changed.
    Click Next.

  18. Click Actions select Modify and Select All  and click NEXT.

  19. Change the target data set name prefix to the one that you want to use for your deployment
Specify a volume or storage class to identify where to create the target data sets.
    Click OK

  20. For Catalogs, no action is required, click NEXT.

  21. Define the job settings to generate JCL to install the software and view the deployment summary.
For this step, specify a JOBCARD and click OK

The deployment summary and jobs are created.

  22.  Submit the deployment jobs in sequential order.

  23. Submit the deployment jobs in sequential order, wait for each job to complete, and then select Refresh to register job completion in z/OSMF

Right click on the JCL Dataset Member Name and select Submit Job

  24. Wait for each job to complete and then select Refresh to register job completion in z/OSMF.

  25. Right click on the JCL Dataset Member Name, click View and select Job Output

  26. A return code of zero is expected. Click Close tto return to the Submit Deployment Jobs

  27. Repeat until all of the deployment jobs have completed

When all deployment jobs have executed successfully, you have unzipped and renamed the product datasets, and updated the CSI data sets. The product datasets have also been successfully copied and the properties for the target software instance have been specified.

Click Close to return to the Deployment Check List.
