Increased battery usage when SEP Mobile is installed

Issue/Introduction

After installing Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) Mobile, the battery life on a mobile device appears to be reduced and battery consumption for SEP is high.

Cause

The increased battery consumption is likely due to frequent network switching.  When the network is changed, that will trigger a new scan of the network and a series of checks.  This can also occur if toggling back and forth from Mobile to WiFi. 

Resolution

• If the issue is due to the device switching back and forth from WiFi to Mobile network, ensure the network has a reliable connection. 
• Consider switching to a 2.4 GHz network if a 5 GHz network connection cannot be sustained.
• If WiFi connection is frequently interrupted or cannot be maintained, consider disabling WiFi at that location.
• Considerations when choosing a WiFi connection:
  • 2.4 GHz offers a longer range and better wall penetration but with slower speeds and more interference from devices like microwaves and Bluetooth. 5 GHz provides faster speeds and less congestion due to more channels but has a shorter range and struggles with obstructions.
