Issue/Introduction

 Adding an Organization VDC Network with an Imported NSX Logical Switch in the VMware Cloud Director (VCD) Tenant Portal gives the following error:

  • Unable to import network <Name of Network> since backing switch ########-####-####-####-############ could not be found.

vcloud-container-debug.log shows the following entries:

  • DEBUG    | task-service-activity-pool-36 | RestClient                     | Retry error message not found "error_code" : 500045 in response for GET /policy/api/v1/infra/segments/########-####-####-############ with status 404 after execution 1:
    {
      "httpStatus" : "NOT_FOUND",
      "error_code" : 600,
      "module_name" : "common-services",
      "error_message" : "The requested object : /infra/segments/########-####-####-############ could not be found. Object identifiers are case sensitive."

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.6.1

Cause

This Issue is caused when the logical switches are created from Manager mode in NSX-T. VCD only interacts with NSX-T Policy APIs and cannot see the segments which are created using the Manager mode.

Resolution

Create an NSX Segment from NSX-T Policy mode to import that Logical Switch as an Organization VDC Network.

Create an NSX Segment

Add an Organization VDC Network with an Imported NSX Logical Switch in the VMware Cloud Director Tenant Portal
