Issue/Introduction

  • VASA Certificate showing expired in vCenter UI
  • Clicking "Refresh Certificate" for the expired provider gives the following error:

Environment

VMware vSphere 7.x

VMware vSphere 8.x

Cause

When the storage provider certificate expires, vCenter will be unable to renew from the vCenter side, the certificate must be replaced on the array directly with the assistance of the storage vendor.

Resolution

  1. Remove the VASA Storage Provider from vCenter (note down IPs/FQDNs).
  2. Work with storage vendor to get a new certificate assigned on the storage provider (Essentially factory reset the certificate from the storage vendor side).
    • Note: vCenter will be unable to Renew the Certificate once the certificate on the provider is expired.
  1. Re-add the VASA Storage Provider.
