Issue/Introduction

  • Customer unable to edit the VM Placement Policy inside VMware Cloud Director (VCD) UI.
  • You are trying to edit a VM Placement Policy, but unfortunately you cannot save the changes, because of the error:

    [ ########-####-####-####-############ ] VM group with name '<Name of VM-group>' not available in provider <Name of Provider-VDC?(com.vmware.vcloud.entity.providervdc:########-####-####-####-########891c)

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.6.1

Cause

You are unable to edit a VM Placement Policy to be used by your Provider VDC, because in this Placement Policy there is still a cluster configured which has already been removed from vCenter. 

Resolution

To workaround the issue please disable and remove the Provider VDC in relation to the above section if the Provider VDC is not is use anymore and the cluster have been removed from vCenter. To remove the Provider VDC please follow the document: Delete a Provider Virtual Data Center in Your VMware Cloud Director
