Block or delete files by File Name in Symantec Protection Engine (SPE)

Issue/Introduction

You need to block or delete a file by file name when scanned by the Symantec Protection Engine (SPE) product.  

Environment

Symantec Protection Engine 9.2.x

Resolution

You can enter the filename via the Web User Interface by adding the file name to Policies > Filtering > Files in the Protection Engine GUI

Optionally you can use the xmlmodifier commands for file attribute setting in the policy

There are two steps needed.

1. 1. Make sure file name blocking is enabled
      1. File Attribute settings > Setting: Enable or disable filtering by file name.
   2. Specify the text file that contains the list of file names to be blocked
      1. File Attribute settings > Specify the file names that you want to filter.

Note: A CLI change will replace the items in the list, anything already in that list would be replaced
