After installing the SCM 12.6 Agent 64-bit component on a Windows computer, the service will not start

Issue/Introduction

After installing CA Harvest SCM Agent 64-bit version 12.6 on a Windows computer and rebooting, you might find that the Agent did not start automatically, even though the “Startup Type” is set to “Automatic”

If you try to start the CA Harvest SCM Agent Service you see this error:

Environment

CA Harvest SCM 12.6 Agent 64-bit versionWindows 64-bit Operating system

Cause

Check the Windows Event Viewer to see if a “SideBySide” error is found that looks similar to this:

The message will be similar to this:

Activation context generation failed for "C:\Program Files\CA\SCM\liblber.dll". Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC90.CRT,processorArchitecture="amd64",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",version="9.0.21022.8" could not be found. Please use sxstrace.exe for detailed diagnosis.

This message indicates that the 64-bit Visual C++ 2008 runtime is missing.

Resolution

Download 64-bit VC++ 2008 redistributable and install it

After this the Agent can start up successfully.
