Issue/Introduction

Existing Bitnami-based Helm applications deployed in VCD fail to update or scale after August 28, 2025.

Reference: https://vcf.broadcom.com/vsc/bitnamiAnnouncement.pdf

New deployments of Bitnami-based Helm charts in VCD result in image pull errors.

Environment

VCD 10.6 with CSE

Cause

Bitnami Repository Migration:
Bitnami is migrating its container images and Helm charts from Docker Hub (docker.io/bitnami) to a new, secure Broadcom registry (vcf.broadcom.com/oci-jx071ijn/sbitnami/containers/debian-12).

Older images will be retired from Docker Hub starting August 28, 2025. Bitnami will be updating their charts in the VCF Solutions Catalog to reflect the new repository locations.

Bitnami images are being moved to two new repository locations: older images are migrating to docker.io/legacybitnami which will not require authentication, while all newer images and future releases will be hosted on vcf.broadcom.com, which requires authentication.

Resolution

For Bitnami Repository Migration for existing charts:

  • Identify all Bitnami Helm charts currently in your VCD catalog.
  • Delete the affected Helm chart(s) from your VCD catalog.
  • Re-import the same application version of the Helm chart(s) into your VCD catalog from the VCF Solutions Catalog. This action will update the chart's internal image references with new repository path. For newer Helm chart versions repository will be updated to vcf.broadcom.com and will require authentication to pull images. For older versions repository will be updated to docker.io/legacybitnami and will not require authentication.

Generate Token from Marketplace Console that require authentication and add Registry credential in VCD:

  1. Users who wish to access Bitnami Helm Charts will have to be onboarded to CSP and get access to VMWare Marketplace Service.

  2. Search for any Bitnami Helm solution and click of the Deploy Button in the right top corner of the solution

      3. Follow the wizard that opens as a pop-up and accept the EULA. Click close.

    4. Once access is provided. Go to Settings→ Distribution Registry section

      5. In the Distribution Registry Page  Click the Manage Token button.

6. Please enter a suitable TTL for your use case for the token and click of Generate.

7. Copy the token Generated.

8. Add a Registry credential in VCD Tenant portal with generated token
