VMware Cloud Foundation VMware SDDC Manager

Issue/Introduction

  • This issue is observed in environments utilizing VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) on VxRail.
  • A Management Domain has already been successfully deployed. However, during the process of deploying a new Workload Domain from the SDDC Manager, the option to initiate the "VI - VxRail Virtual Infrastructure Setup" is greyed out.

  • Downloaded bundles in the SDDC Lifecycle Manager (LCM) for vCenter and NSX bundle are lower than the installed versions for the same components (vCenter and NSX) in the Management Domain, or the bundles were never downloaded.

Environment

  • VCF on VxRail 4.x
  • VCF on VxRail 5.x

Cause

  • This behavior is expected as SDDC Manager enforces strict version compatibility between the Management Domain and any new Workload Domains. As such, attempting to deploy a Workload Domain with outdated infrastructure bundles (vCenter or NSX) results in the unavailability of deployment options for VxRail-based infrastructure.

Resolution

  1. Identify Installed Component Versions
    • Log in to the SDDC Manager UI.
    • Navigate to Inventory > Domains > Management Domain.
    • Record the current versions of vCenter Server and NSX deployed in the Management Domain.
  2. Update SDDC Lifecycle Manager Bundles
    • Access SDDC Manager > Repository > Bundles.
    • Ensure that the repository contains vCenter Server and NSX bundles that are equal to or higher than the versions currently installed in the Management Domain.
    • If not present, perform a bundle download.
  3. Retry Workload Domain Deployment
    • Once correct version of bundles are downloaded, the "VI - VxRail Virtual Infrastructure Setup" option will become available.
    • Proceed with the standard deployment workflow.
