XCOM Data Transport

Issue/Introduction

We currently have a RHEL8 server and plan to upgrade it to RHEL9. Can we install XCOM r12.0 plus the current maintenance on the RHEL8 system and then upgrade to RHEL9?

Environment

XCOM Data Transport r12.0 for Linux

Resolution

Installing XCOM r12.0 + the latest available fix prior to upgrading the OS to RHEL9 is not recommended. XCOM r12.0 + the latest maintenance should be installed after the OS has been upgraded to RHEL9.

Additional Information

Starting with RHEL9 or SuSE 15 SP03, the XINETD system service has been deprecated. With Solution LU11905, the new XCOM services in SYSTEMD format will be installed.

The XCOM installer checks for the OS version in order to make a decision on installing the XCOM services into XINETD or SYSTEMD. If the OS is RHEL9 or SuSe 15 SP03 or later, then it will configure SYSTEMD. If the OS is RHEL8 or below, then it will configure XINETD.
