Issue/Introduction

In upgrading vCenter it stalled in Stage 2 at 50% with the following errors:

Error:           Failed to set network 

Resolution:  Make sure that a DHCP server is reachable

Error:           The request for acquiring a DHCP address has timed out.

Resolution:  Make sure that a DHCP server is reachable

Refer to the following logs at this location on the 8.0 vCenter VM: /var/log/vmware/upgrade/export-upgrade-runner.log for an error like: [The request for acquiring a DHCP address has timed out., Failed to set network

In the same location on the 8.0 vCenter VM, check the export.json file for an error like: The request for acquiring a DHCP address has timed out

Environment

vCenter 7.x

vCenter 8.x

Cause

In looking at the vCenter VAMI, Networking, under Network Settings, IPv4 Address you will see the ip address/DHCP. 

Resolution

At the vCenter VAMI, Networking, Network Settings, Edit, change it from DHCP to Static and enter an ip address.
