Issue/Introduction

When creating a new Kubernetes Container Cluster in the VCD UI:

  • After selecting a Kubernetes Policy, the Kubernetes Version drop-down list does not display any available versions.
  • The cluster provisioning workflow cannot proceed further.

Environment

VCD version: 10.6.0

vCenter version: 8.0 U3

Container UI plugin version: 4.2.3

Cause

VMware Cloud Director 10.6.0 does not support vCenter 8.0 U3 when using Tanzu Kubernetes Grid Service (TKGS) / vSphere with Tanzu.

This limitation is documented in the VMware Cloud Director 10.6 Release Notes.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, use one of the following supported options:

  1. Recommended Solution

    • Deploy Kubernetes clusters using VMware Cloud Director Container Service Extension (CSE) with Tanzu Kubernetes Grid (TKGm).

    • This is the supported integration path with VCD 10.6 and ensures compatibility with vCenter 8.0 U3.

Additional Information

Reference: VMware Cloud Director 10.6 Release Notes

Using CSE/TKGm avoids the compatibility limitations encountered with TKGS + vCenter 8.0 U3.
