Issue/Introduction

Avi Virtual Services may fail to deploy correctly and display the following error message: "Host selection for Service Engine creation in progress. Please wait."

This indicates that the deployment process for the associated Service Engine VM has stalled.

Cause

  • The root cause of this issue is a stuck internal flag within the Avi Controller's workflow for Service Engine creation.
  • The above issue is triggered when the service engine VM creations are slow. The default timeout for creating an SE is 15 minutes.
  • The stuck flag prevents the workflow from completing, leading to the indefinite "in progress" state and preventing the Virtual Service from becoming operational.
  • The Bug ID for this bug is AV-243521.

Resolution

Permanent Fix

  • This issue is resolved in Avi patch version 22.1.7-2p10.
  • To permanently fix the problem, it is recommended to upgrade your environment by applying the latest available patch for version 22.1.7.

Workaround

  • For immediate service restoration without upgrading, the stalled process can be cleared by restarting the res-mgr process on the Avi Controller.
  • Please contact VMware Technical Support to assist with implementing this workaround in your environment.
