After conducting a DR (Disaster Recovery) test, it was discovered that some Production tapes had the wrong Category Code (i.e., they had the Category Code of the DR system instead). How can we change the Category Code of these tapes back to that of the Production system?
There are 2 methods for getting the correct Category Code set (i.e., from that of the DR site to that of the Production system):
1) COPYCAT can be used to copy the volumes to a new production tape. After this, TMSCLEAN can be used to scratch and sync the old source volumes. After this, one has to go into the TS7700 and issue a library command to EJECT the tape volumes to put the volumes into "Delete" Status. At this point one can redefine the tape volumes with the correct Category Code within the TS7700 (when the tape is reused, it should have the correct Category Code).
2) A simpler method for changing the Category Code: On the system with the correct Category Code in the DEVSUPxx system, simply go into the ISMF panels and do an ALTER on the volume to change the status from PRIVATE to PRIVATE. No need to copy the contents of the volume or change the status to scratch. Just change (with an ALTER command) the volume from PRIVATE to PRIVATE (or SCRATCH to SCRATCH) and then the category will be assigned based upon the DEVSUPxx category on that system.
