vApp deployment fails with "Reconfiguration of vmGroups: [VM_GROUP_NAME] timed out for cluster"

Issue/Introduction

• Creating vApp VMs in Cloud Director fails when having VMsizing attached in the template.
• vcloud-container-debug.log under /opt/vmware/vcloud-director/logs/ includes the below error :

com.vmware.vcloud.api.presentation.service.InternalServerErrorException: Reconfiguration of vmGroups: [VM_GROUP_NAME] timed out for cluster [vcId=#####-######-######-#####, moref=domain-123456]

Caused by: com.vmware.ssdc.util.LMException: Reconfiguration of vmGroups: [VM_GROUP_NAME] timed out for cluster [vcId=#####-######-######-#####, moref=domain-123456]

 

• The VMs and Hosts are already added correctly on the vCenter cluster under VM-Host groups and affinity rules as per Using Affinity rules with vSphere DRS.

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.x

Cause

The inventory cache may be outdated, preventing the VMGroup from being recognized as part of the cluster information in VMware Cloud Director view.
