Issue/Introduction

Monitoring tools may display incorrect sensor values for ESXi hosts. This occurs because the vCenter Managed Object Browser (MOB) can retain stale sensor data for a host. Since many monitoring tools consume host sensor values directly from MOB, the mismatch results in inaccurate reporting.

Environment

ESXi 7.x/8.x

Cause

This issue is caused by stale sensor values being retained in the vCenter MOB. Under certain conditions, the MOB does not refresh its state correctly for ESXi host objects, leading to inconsistent values across vCenter and monitoring tools.

Resolution

To refresh the MOB state and correct the sensor values:

  1. Disconnect the affected ESXi host from vCenter.

  2. Reconnect the host back to vCenter.

This operation forces vCenter to reinitialize the host state in MOB, which clears the stale data. Once completed, monitoring tools reflect the updated sensor values.

Note: VMware engineering is aware of this issue and working on a permanent fix. Until then, the disconnect/reconnect procedure can be safely reapplied if the problem reoccurs.
