Issue/Introduction

Remediation through vCenter Lifecycle Manager keeps failing during the upgrade. On checking the tasks and events, the upgrade process does not move forward.

Environment

7.0 U3t

6.7 U3b

Cause

The issue comes up because the upgrade path is not supported. A direct upgrade from ESXi 6.7 U3b to 7.0 U3s is not allowed. Also, ESXi 7.0 U3 and a few later versions are removed, as shown in the release notes and screenshots.

Resolution

The proper way is to upgrade the ESXi from version 6.7 U3 to 7.0 U2 first, and then proceed to the higher supported versions. This path matches the compatibility guidelines and ensures the remediation completes without failure.
