Issue/Introduction

How to move the Domain Manager from one Server to another Server.
SQL Server is on a remote server and will not change

Environment

Client Automation 14.5

Resolution

1- There are some prerequisite to do the Domain Manager move :

  • First prerequisite it that new Windows server keeps the same hostname and same FQDN. (it is because the hostname and FQDN are stored in lot of database tables and also in comstore file).

  • Second prerequisite is that installation path should be the same. Example : If ITCM was installed under c:\program files (x86)\CA on old server, you should keep the same installation path on new server.

  • Third prerequisite is that new Domain Manager has SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) version 17.9.1 installed.
See : Install Domain Manager - no Microsoft SQL Client Tools installed
This will install the needed tools (osql.exe and sqlcmd.exe).

2- On old server stop caf services :

caf stop
hmagent stop
cfsystray stop
camclose
csampmux stop

3- Do a backup of folder C:\Program Files (x86)\CA

4- Export following registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\ComputerAssociates

5- On new server restore the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\CA (backup from step 3)

6- On new server Restore registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\ComputerAssociates
And delete the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\ComputerAssociates\CAMessageQueuing

7- Create the registry string
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\ComputerAssociates\HostUUID\LockHostUUID = 1

See : Prevent the Host UUID from changing on Virtualized environments

8- On new server execute CA Client Automation setup and reinstall the Domain Manager.

During wizard Click Recovery.

The Configure Manager Wizard page opens.
Select System Replacement and Replacing System options, and specify the location of the DSMRecovery.ini (C:\Program Files (x86)\CA\DSM)

9- Follow the wizard and start the installation.
