Issue/Introduction

  • Host upgrade workflow getting stuck at 'ESX UPGRADE VUM STAGE SCAN HOST'

  • On the vSphere Client the 'Scan Entity' task is stuck at 0%

  • vCenter logs indicate an issue downloading a VIB:

    /var/log/vmware/vmware-updatemgr/vum-server/vmware-vum-server.log
    yyyy-mm-ddThh:mm:ss.zzzz verbose vmware-vum-server[1478222] [Originator@6876 sub=httpDownload] [httpDownloadPosix 1148]
    The url https://dl.broadcom.com/<download_token>/PROD/COMP/ESX_HOST/main/esx/vmw/vib20/<VIB_NAME>/<VIB_NAME>.vib is inaccessible.

Environment

VMware SDDC Manager
VMware vCenter Server

Cause

A VIB required for the compliance check workflow is missing from the Lifecycle Manager database and the vCenter is not able to reach the online depot to download it.

Resolution

Issue can be environmental related to a proxy/firewall configuration or related to an invalid download token.

To address the issue restore the communication to the online depot and synchronize the vSphere Lifecycle Manager Depot. Once sync is completed reattempt the workflow from the SDDC Manager.

Refer to KB395322 to investigate Download Token issue.

If the environment is restricted and does not have access to the online depots you might have to manually import the missing VIB to the Lifecycle Manager.
