Issue/Introduction

For vCenter upgrades, does the temporary IP address need to meet the prerequisite for forward and reverse DNS records?

Cause

Upgrade vCenter using a static IP

Resolution

During Stage 1 of the upgrade, you can configure the appliance to use either DHCP or Static networking.

1. If you select Static, the wizard prompts you for the temporary IP, subnet mask, gateway, and DNS servers.
2. The prerequisite for DNS forward and reverse records only applies if you specify both a static IP and an FQDN as the system name.
3. If you assign only a temporary static IP address (without a fully qualified domain name), forward and reverse DNS records are not required.
