Issue/Introduction

  • On rebooting ESXi host fails to boot and you see an below error on physical server ILO/DRAC
    IA32 Exception Type 06 - Invalid Opcode Exception
  • when upgrading ESXi host from 7.x to ESXi 8.x  or  to latest esxi build the Hardware BIOS fails to pass the boot.

ESXi 7.x

ESXi 8.x

 

Cause

A corrupted firmware, incompatible firmware versions or failing hardware components.

Resolution

This not is ESXi OS issue.

Contact hardware vendor to fix firmware/bios or hardware issue.
