Issue/Introduction

Do both DB Servers and External PXF Servers have to be on RHEL 8 and above or is it possible to have DB Servers on RHEL 7 and External Servers on RHEL 8 and above ?

Resolution

Configuring Greenplum 7 on RHEL7 with external PXF on RHEL 8/9 is not a supported option for the following justification:

Theoretically, Greenplum servers and external PXF servers can have different OS versions (RHEL8 and RHEL9, for example) as long as the PXF version installed on both sets is the same. Since Broadcom VMware no longer supports RHEL7-based RPMs for PXF 7, the setup option of interest may not be configurable, since it will not be possible to install PXF 7 on Greenplum cluster if it runs RHEL7.
