Issue/Introduction

When attempting to generate a diagnostics bundle using the Skyline Health Diagnostics tool, the generation will fail and a core dump - core.ps.###### - will be generated in the /var/core/ directory.

Environment

vCenter 8.0.3

Skyline Health Diagnostics tool 4.0.9

Cause

The dump is generated when the command:

/bin/ps auwwx --sort -rss

is run by the diagnostics tool.

This is due to a known issue in the procps-ng-3.3.17-2.ph4.x86_64 package that is on the vCenter appliance.

Resolution

Currently Broadcom development is aware of this issue and working to resolve it in later versions of vCenter with the newer procps-ng-4.0.4-1 package that is being included with vCenter appliances.

At this time as a workaround we advise manually deleting the core.ps dumps that are generated by this process located at /var/core.
