Unable to remove or migrate a storage policy due to vApp template associations

Issue/Introduction

In VMware Cloud Director (VCD), attempts to migrate or remove an existing storage policy may fail if vApp templates remain associated with that policy.

Even though the UI metrics may show no active usage, the storage policy is still considered in use because it is linked to templates in the content catalog.

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.x

Cause

The storage policy cannot be removed because it remains associated with existing vApp templates.

Resolution

• Create a new Catalog with the updated Org VDC and Storage Policy pairing.
• Copy or move the templates from the old Catalog to the new Catalog.
• Verify that no templates remain associated with the old storage policy.
• Once all templates have been migrated, retry removing the outdated storage policy.
