VMware Cloud on AWS

Issue/Introduction

  • Hybrid Linked Mode (HLM) has been configured between a VMC on AWS vCenter and an on-premise vCenter.
  • HLM has been configured using the vCenter Cloud Gateway Appliance (VCGA) or directly from the VMC on AWS vCenter.
  • The on-premise vCenter has been recently upgraded.
  • When logging into the VCGA URL or the VMC on AWS vCenter URL, one of the vCenter servers is no longer showing in the inventory list.

Environment

VMC on AWS

Cause

This is caused by the on-premise vCenter server being at a newer build compared to the VMC on AWS vCenter server.

Resolution

  • If the VMC on AWS vCenter server is at a lower build than the on-premise vCenter server, HLM will not work.
  • There is currently no resolution or workaround for this.
  • If HLM is being used between on-premise and VMC on AWS it is recommended to keep both environments at the same vCenter version.
