Rally - Bulk User Story Import Failure with Mandatory Release/Iteration Fields

Issue/Introduction

Users are attempting to perform a bulk import of user stories into Rally. The workspace is configured with 'Release' and 'Iteration' as mandatory fields. The import is being attempted using the default import template provided by Rally. However, the import process is failing because Rally is not accepting the 'Iteration' and 'Release' fields from the template.

Cause

Known Limitation - The default import template does not support the direct import of iteration or release field data.

The workspace configuration mandates (Release & Iteration) fields, the observed error during artifact creation in Rally via import is expected.

Resolution

To successfully import, Admins need to adjust the workspace configuration:

1. Remove 'Release' and 'Iteration' as mandatory fields from your workspace field configuration.
2. Implement a mandatory Work rule for User Stories within the workspace, leveraging any state field to enforce iteration and release as mandatory. An example is provided below.
