Issue/Introduction

  • Creating a new blank VM succeeds in VMware Cloud Director(VCD).
  • Creating VMs from certain templates will fail with the error:
    {Cannot connect to host.} - Underlying system error: com.vmware.vim.binding.vim.fault.HostConnectFault.
  • No changes in the environment prior to this issue.
  • All the ports are verified open with reference to similar issue : Error: "Cannot connect to host" when deploying a VM from Template in Cloud Director.
     

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.6.1.1

Cause

This issue can happen when the templates have incorrect storage policy reference which was inaccessible to the organization VDC.

Resolution

To resolve the issue, ensure the templates and catalogs are on the accessible storage policies.

View Catalogs in the VMware Cloud Director Tenant Portal

  • Select 'Storage Policies' from the list of actions available with Step 3 in the above document.
  • Verify the storage policy settings on the catalog.
