Issue/Introduction

  • Attempting SSH connection to VMware Identity Manager 3.3.7 using PuTTY fails with the error message "Couldn't agree a host key algorithm (available: rsa-sha2-512,rsa-sha2-256)".
  • The issue is observed after applying the patch CSP-97577  or patch CSP-102092 on the VMware Identity Manager 3.3.7 appliance.

Environment

VMware Identity Manager 3.3.7

Putty 0.74 or lower

RemoteNG (below 1.77.2)

Cause

The version of PuTTY used to connect to VMware Identity Manager doesn't support the rsa-sha2-512 or rsa-sha2-256 algorithms required for host key negotiation.

Resolution

To resolve the issue, upgrade PuTTY to 0.75 version or higher.

Also, if using RemoteNG,  go to Tools / Options in mRemoteNG, go to Advanced, check off "Use custom PuTTY path" and browse and pick the path to your putty.exe. You should be able to connect now.
