ESXi host profile update fails with Host is not changed message

Issue/Introduction

• When attempting to update the host's software image profile per KB 321366, the host reports no changes were made,
• The esxcli software profile install command reports that all VIBs were skipped.

Update Result
   Message: Host is not changed.

   VIBs Skipped: [ All the vibs installed on the host will be listed at this space]

Environment

• VMware ESXi 7.x

• VMware ESXi 8.x

Cause

The esxcli software profile install command only performs actions if there is a discrepancy between the VIBs currently installed on the host and those contained within the target offline depot. If the VIB names and versions match exactly, the installer logic determines no changes are required and skips the installation.
