Issue/Introduction

When deploying the SSP Installer OVA, the deployment may fail with the following error message:

FQDN could not be resolved or reverse lookup failed mapping IP to FQDN locally

This message is ideally seen on the console while the SSP-Installer VM is powering up.

Even though the VM is assigned an IP address, the installer does not come up successfully.

Environment

  • Security Services Platform (SSP)

  • Version: 5.0

Resolution

To workaround this issue:

  1. Redeploy the SSP Installer OVA.

  2. During the OVA deployment wizard:

    • Provide DNS server IP addresses (not hostnames).

    • Ensure that forward and reverse DNS records exist for the chosen FQDN and IP address in the DNS server.

  3. Complete the deployment.

Once redeployed with DNS IPs instead of hostnames, the FQDN resolution succeeds and the SSP Installer VM powers on without errors.

Additional Information

  • Confirm that the correct IP address and FQDN have been allocated.
  • Ensure the appropriate network port group is selected.
  • Verify that the IP address is not duplicated
  • Make sure that only one set of IP address(not multiple) of the DNS server is provided

Please refer to Deploy SSP Installer for more information about the SSP-Installer OVF Requirements.
