Change the IP Address of Aria Operations Node Network Configuration from DHCP to Static IP

Issue/Introduction

The VMware Aria Operations Virtual Machine (VM) was deployed using DHCP, but operational requirements now mandate the use of a static IP address for consistent network behavior and system reliability.

Environment

Aria Operations 8.14.x and later

Cause

The VM was initially deployed with DHCP, and you need to change it to STATIC

Resolution

Before proceeding, ensure the following requirements are met:

  • Access to the vSphere Client with administrative privileges.

  • The desired static IP address, subnet mask, gateway, and DNS settings are available and approved.

  • A scheduled maintenance window, as downtime is required to complete the operation.

  • Forward and reverse DNS resolution must be configured for each node in the Aria Operations cluster.

     Note: Update your DNS server to reflect the new static IP addresses for the nodes.

Step-by-Step Procedure
 
1. Take the Cluster Offline

  1. Log in to the Aria Operations Admin UI as the local admin user.

  2. Navigate to Cluster Status and click Take Offline
    Note: Wait until the cluster status shows as Offline before continuing.

2. Shut Down the Aria Operations Nodes

  1. Log in to the vSphere Client with administrator access.

  2. Perform a Guest OS Shutdown on all nodes in the Aria Operations cluster.

  3. Take a snapshot of all the nodes
3. Update Network Configuration (Per Node)
 
Note: Start with the Primary node, then Primary Replica (if present), and then data nodes. Do not proceed to the next step until you have completed the substeps on each node.

Modify vApp Options:

  1. In the vSphere Client, select the target VM.

  2. Go to Configure > Settings > vApp Options.

  3. Click Edit.

  4. Under IP Allocation, uncheck the DHCP option.

  5. Click OK to save your changes.

4. Assign a Static IP Address
