Issue/Introduction

vCenter server stage 1 upgrade is stuck at 80%

Environment

vCenter 7.x

vCenter 8.x

Cause

DRS in the cluster which vCenter resides is set to fully automated and vCenter was allowed to vMotion during the upgrade process.

Resolution

Cancel the upgrade.

Set DRS to manual mode on the cluster where the vCenter VM is getting deployed.

Retry the upgrade.
